FAQs

Q. What size bracelet / necklace should I order?

Please refer to my sizing guide.

Q. If I want a different length of earring, can you make this?

I can certainly add / remove to change the length of the earrings. I recently removed a motif in a dangle earring at a customer’s request, as she didn’t like her earrings too long. I can also design a new pair of earrings if you have something in mind.

Q. What’s the best way to ensure the longevity of my elastic bracelet?

Whereas the elastic I use is very strong and securely knotted (with super strength glue), elastic is likely to wear after a time (depending on how often you wear your bracelet). I would recommend not showering in your jewellery and rolling the bracelet over your hand when putting it on or taking it off. This really seems to improve longevity with elastic.

Q. What is meant by beadweave items?

Beadweaving is the art of creating jewellery using a needle and strong beading thread to weave patterns with seed beads. (Some people use a loom to create flat pieces of beadweaving). I only ever make things by hand, which may take 2 hours for the simplest earrings up to 10 hours for an intricately sewn bracelet.

Q. Why do you use silver / gold plate rather than gold-filled or sterling silver in your jewellery?

I tend to use silver plate where possible to counteract the rising cost of silver. Silver / gold plate means that a base metal is plated with precious silver or gold. The material still retains its beauty and durability, but costs are not so high for the finished article.

At the same time, we all need something to make us feel really special, so I may choose sterling silver and gold-filled if I feel a gemstone merits a more luxurious finish. If you prefer to swap out your plated jewellery for something a bit more expensive, just let me know and I’ll quote a different price.

Gold-filled jewellery is where an actual layer of gold-is pressure bonded to another metal, making it tarnish resistant.

Sterling silver consists of 92½ percent pure silver alloyed with other metals, usually copper. The copper and other metals in the alloy reduce its tendency to tarnish.

Q. Can you explain what a fire-polished bead is?

A fire-polished bead is a faceted bead with sparkle – the opposite of an opaque or matte bead.
